Though Portia de Rossi has often been open about her past body image issues, few knew the extent of her previous battles with both bulimia and anorexia — until now.
In a new online docuseries titled It Got Better, the 42-year-old star revealed she first experimented with extreme dieting and food deprivation while working as a pre-teen model.

"I felt tremendous responsibility when I was 12-years-old and I was put on a catwalk," she explained in an exclusive clip from the series obtained by Entertainment Tonight. "My modeling agents had told me to go on a diet. So I didn't eat for 10 days before then."

Portia's insecurities about her looks sadly didn't end there. "I get up on this catwalk, and I'm a little kid, and I'm posing and trying to be sexy and strutting around... and all the other models are making fun of my bushy eyebrows," she recalled.

"When I got in the car after that event and just opened up a bag of my favorite candy and just put my whole head in it and I think, 'Sh-t, what have I done? I just undid two weeks worth of dieting.' So then I vomit.
"I erase the feelings with food, erase the food with vomiting, but you're still left with the shame," the Scandal star added while holding back tears. "It makes me emotional just thinking about that day. Ugh, it's just horrible."
In her 2011 memoir, Unbearable Lightness: A Story of Loss and Gain, Portia revealed her unhealthy dieting habits from her modeling days resurfaced when she was cast as lawyer Nelle Porter on the popular TV series Ally McBeal, which ran from 1997 until 2002. It wasn't until she married wife Ellen DeGeneres, 57, in August 2008 that she began to accept her body, she wrote.
