Gloria and Emilio Estefan lit up the red carpet as they walked hand-in-hand into the opening of their new Broadway production, Get on Your Feet!, on Nov. 5.
The just-opened musical is based on the story of Gloria and Emilio’s life, and is full of hot dance numbers like “Conga” and “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You”—but along with the musical hits and happy times, the couple have had their share of hardship.

“It’s been a very emotional process,” the 58-year-old singer confessed to Closer about writing the autobiographical show. “We’ve cried more in this year than our entire lifetimes.”

The duo had already enjoyed worldwide success with their musical group, Miami Sound Machine, and welcomed their son, Nayib, now 35, when a terrifying tour bus crash almost took Gloria’s life in 1990.

Gloria suffered a broken back in the snowy accident, and she tells Closer, “Things like that either tear you apart or bring you closer together.”
