The Devil Wears Prada is coming to Broadway!
Elton John is scoring a new musical version of the hit 2006 movie, which starred Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, the iconic singer announced on Thursday, Jan. 26.
“Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theatre is super exciting,” the 69-year-old star said in a statement. “I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film, and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture.”

Elton will also work with lyricist and writer Paul Rudnick on the upcoming project. A production timeline has not yet been revealed for the show.
“To bring The Devil Wears Prada to the stage, we knew we needed to find artists as inimitable as the characters in the story,” producers Kevin McCollum and Fox Stage Productions’ Bob Cohen said in a joint statement. “We needed artists whose work has run the gamut from music and publishing to drama and fashion. We could only think of two names: Elton John and Paul Rudnick.”
This isn't the first time Elton — who has two sons, Zachary Furnish-John, 6, and Elijah Furnish-John, 4, with husband David Furnish — has turned a popular movie into a hit musical. Back in 1997, he brought The Lion King to Broadway and 11 years later, adapted Billy Elliot: The Musical for the stage in 2008.

So, would The Devil Wears Prada movie leads — Meryl, 67, and Anne, 34 — consider joining the production? No official word yet, but both actress have had several stage roles in the past.
In 2009, Anne starred as Viola in Twelfth Night and returned to Broadway in 2015 to portray a pilot in Grounded. Throughout her illustrious showbiz career, Meryl has starred in 13 shows, including The Taming of the Shrew (1978), Bridge and Tunnel (2004), and Mother Courage and Her Children (2006).
