A very special night 66 years in the making!
Though they've enjoyed more than six decades of wedded bliss, Ralph Wozniak, 89, has always been upset he never got the chance to take his wife, LaVerne, to the prom while they were high school sweethearts.

“We didn't have a prom because it was war time,” LaVerne, also 89, said in a new interview. In 1944, Ralph enlisted in the Marine Corps and was deployed overseas during World War II.

“I couldn't make the prom and I couldn't finish high school,” he recalled. When he returned from the war, he again missed the dance because he went to fight in the Korean War. “That really put the snap on it that I wasn't going to go to any prom,” he said.
Then, after 66 years of marriage and four children, Ralph and LaVerne finally got their wish when they recently attended the Hillsborough County Aging Services Senior Prom. “It gave the people of our age the feeling of being young again,” LaVerne said of the fun night.
The best part? Ralph was named prom king! “To be chosen as the king. That was even a plus sign,” he said of the honor. “I got out of my line and gave him a kiss because I said, ‘That's my husband, that's the king,'" LaVerne chimed in.
