What was your life like before the weight loss?
I've had weight issues from middle school on. I ate when I was happy, sad, bored, or tired — it was something to do and I did it almost mindlessly. I continued to struggle with my weight as an adult and eventually wore a size 24. When I became pregnant with my son, my doctors told me I could only gain 15 pounds while expecting due to my high pre-pregnancy weight. I had to see a high-risk doctor due to complications from my size, but miraculously my son and I made it through. One of the hardest things about being so overweight was feeling isolated. People treated me differently.

How did you get started with your weight loss journey?
One day, something inside me "clicked." I walked into my husband’s office and told him I was joining a weight loss program. I‘d made up my mind, and I was not going to let concerns about money, commitment, or anything else stand in the way of making this life change. He saw the look on my face and knew I was ready.

How did your diet and exercise habits change?
Before joining Jenny Craig, I maybe ate a vegetable once a week at best and always felt the urge to finish the food on my plate whether I was hungry or not. Once I joined the program, my dietary habits changed completely. I started eating three meals and two healthy snacks a day and learned to practice portion control. I now eat vegetables and fruits every day. I track what I’m eating to stay focused on my new healthy eating habits to continue managing my weight. Before, I wasn't exercising at all and never gave it a thought. Now, I work out five to seven days a week by walking on the treadmill and using free weights.
How does it feel now that you've lost the weight?
After spending two years losing 107 pounds, I feel confident in knowing I can make good food choices and eat healthily on my own! I’ve never felt that way before. I can now shop for clothes in department stores. I am more active and can even run! I am proud of this new body and the fact that I worked so hard for it. I feel like I’ve been freed to have the life I want.
