Tony-winning performer Marissa Jaret Winokur realized her boyfriend wanted to take their relationship to the next level when he suggested they buy a home together.
"I thought, 'If he wants to cosign a mortgage, that's bigger than marriage!' That's huge," Marissa, 42, tells 'Closer.'
When she found the mid-century modern, four-bedroom, four-bath, 3,000-square-foot house in Toluca Lake, Calif., however, it wasn't love at first sight.

"I thought it was a piece of crap," Marissa, best known for her 2002 to 2003 run as Tracy Turnblad in 'Hairspray' on Broadway, admits with a laugh. "It needed so much work."
The home's minimalist modern design also wasn't her taste. "My dream home would be one of those Cape Cod mini mansions the rich girls lived in where I grew up [in Beford, NY]," she confesses.

Still, the house did have a few things going for it. It sits on a lush and secluded half-acre of property — uncommonly large for that area of LA — and it virtually fell into Marissa's lap.
