Mary Ann Manning was determined to share a dance with her son Ryan at his wedding, but her children weren't sure she'd have the strength. After all, a long battle with breast cancer had left her in a wheelchair.
But when Ryan tied the knot in Dana Point, Calif., earlier this month, she was able to join her only son on the dance floor.
"It was incredibly emotional, especially to see her pop out of the wheelchair," daughter Karie Chamberlain told KTVU. "For the days leading up to it, we were helping her do everything — even walk."
As the pair swayed to Israel Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," there wasn't a dry eye in the reception hall. "There is absolutely no doubt that that woman, a very strong woman, fought incredibly hard to get to that point," Ryan said while holding back tears.
Exactly 72 hours after the ceremony began at 5:30 p.m., Mary Ann passed away. "To have this moment to cherish and to relive through the video, we're so happy," daughter Kristie Manning told the station. "We're so, so lucky to call her mom."
