Jimmy Carter's grandson, Jeremy Carter, has sadly died at age 28.
Just two short weeks after announcing he is cancer-free, the former U.S. President delivered the sad news to his church family in Plains, Ga. prior to teaching his Sunday school class on Dec. 20, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"The grandson had not been feeling well and laid down to take a nap Saturday," Maranatha Baptist Church Rev. Jeremy Shoulta told CNN. "They were trying to keep his heart going and eventually, later in the night or the wee hours of [Sunday] morning, his heart stopped."

"[President Carter] was shaken," the reverend continued. "He was obviously sad although he was able to teach and he was able to present the lesson as well as he always has. But it was apparent to everyone there that this was weighing on him very heavily."

At Sunday's service, Jimmy, 91, remained positive despite the horrible tragedy. “I should be joyful and thankful to God for giving me both life and freedom,” he said.
