Gardening, Shopping and Horseback Riding! See Photos of Queen Elizabeth Doing Totally Normal Things

Although she holds the highest title in the royal family, deep down Queen Elizabeth is just a normal gal. Despite living in Buckingham Palace and having a net worth of about $500 million, Her Majesty enjoys spending her time doing totally normal things just like us — including horseback riding, taking the public train and much more.

However, royal expert Paul Burell insisted the royal monarch isn’t just practical when it comes to fun activities. While chatting with Closer Weekly in October 2019, Princess Diana’s former butler exclusively revealed what it is about Elizabeth that proves she’s just a normal girl when you take away all the glitz and glamour of British royalty.

“She regularly wanders around the corridors of her homes switching off electric lights,” Paul said, explaining that Elizabeth isn’t a fan of wasting products. The royal worker added that the queen doesn’t even like to throw out “paper, ribbons and rubber bands.”

Darren McGrady, Elizabeth’s chef and author of Eating Royally: Recipes and Remembrances From a Palace Kitchen, echoed Paul’s sentiment as he praised Elizabeth’s simplicity. “One day she could be at Buckingham Palace eating off fine china, the next she could be [in Scotland] eating from a plastic Tupperware container,” he revealed to Closer. “The queen eats to live, not lives to eat. She’s not a real foodie.”

Despite her royal title, Angela Kelly, the queen’s longtime confidante, told Closer that Elizabeth has one of the most electrifying personalities. In fact, The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, the Dresser and the Wardrobe author — who revealed the queen’s most fun secrets in her new tell-all book — dished Elizabeth isn’t always as prim and proper as some may think.

“The queen has a wicked sense of humor and is a great mimic. She can do all accents — including mine!” she gushed. “She can enthrall the entire household with a perfect accent, whether it be from Scotland or the East End of London,” Paul told Closer as he agreed with the queen’s dressmaker.

Because of her simple taste and practicality, Elizabeth’s workers couldn’t feel more grateful to be apart of her team. “I love the queen and everything about her,” Angela sweetly shared. “I love seeing the faces of the public when they meet the queen, and when she gives them that special smile. It makes me feel so proud of her.”
