Sofia and Joe first met while they were attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2014. The acting duo hit it off even though Sofia was still with her ex-fiancé, Nick Loeb, at the time. However, Joe made sure to follow up when the Colombian actress called off her engagement to the American businessman just weeks later.

The adorable lovebirds ended up going on their first date after the True Blood actor reached out to Sofia’s costar, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and asked for her number. Although Joe was over the moon about taking the brunette bombshell out for a night of fun, he once dished it didn’t go as planned as Sofia actually had her guard up.

“Our first date was her giving me every reason why it would never work out,” he explained to Haute Living. “Like, ‘You’re too young, you’re an actor, you’re this, you’re that,’ and she was just doing it to hear herself say it. She was trying to talk herself out of going there.”

Fortunately, the Hot Pursuit star gave Joe a chance and it wouldn’t be long before they were spotted out on romantic weekend getaways. They also quickly began sharing candid pics of themselves on each others’ Instagrams, as well as glimpses inside their fun celebrations with friends and family.

By August 2014, Sofia shared the exciting news that she and Joe were officially exclusive. “You know, I’m just having a great time. It’s a special time in my life, and I’m trying not to think too much about it,” she gushed to Extra. “It’s something very new, so we will see what happens.” Little did she know what was in store!
