Celebrity chef Valerie Bertinelli couldn’t help but gush over her sweet reunion with her 29-year-old son, Wolfie, after they spent three months in quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We didn’t see each other, except for FaceTime for at least three months I want to say, and when I finally got to hug him it was — it lasted a very, very long time,” the 60-year-old star told Jenna Bush Hager on Today on August 13, before cracking a joke.

“Now I want to slug him,” she laughed. “No. But I adore him. He comes over for dinner and we watch movies. He comes over with his girlfriend, Andrea, and it’s so nice to hug somebody. I realized I haven’t hugged anyone besides my husband in like three months.”

When the Hot in Cleveland star met up with Wolfie during the summer it was like no time had passed between them. In July, she told Today her son stopped by on the 4th of July and played Animal Crossing, a popular game by Nintendo, with her. “We went to each other’s island,” the doting mom said.

Valerie shares Wolfgang, a.k.a Wolfie, with her ex-husband, Eddie Van Helen. Wolfie, who has followed in his dad’s footsteps, decided to pursue a career in music and is currently the bassist for his father’s band, Van Helen. But when he’s out on the road, Valerie makes sure to check in with her son to see how he’s doing.

“[I’ll] call him or just say hi … or just to say nothing, just to hear his voice,” the mom of one previously gushed to Good Housekeeping. “And of course, we FaceTime now more than ever, which I absolutely love.”

Their talks on the phone are something both Valerie and Wolfie look forward to every day. “He respects my opinion, even though he would never say that out loud, but he’ll call and ask me what I think of certain things or how would I handle a situation … or sometimes he calls to vent, and I’m happy to be that shoulder too,” she told Motherhood Later in a previous interview.

We’re so glad that Valerie and her son have a close relationship!
