Behind every great film is a great director — however the same can be said about legendary filmmaker Ron Howard, who has had his wife of 44 years, Cheryl Howard, by his side through it all.
In 1975, the Oscar winner tied the knot with his love — and ever since then the couple have kept their incredible bond strong. The pair would go on to have four children —daughters Bryce, 38, Jocelyn, 34, Paige, 34, and son Reed, 32. Although being married almost 45 years doesn’t just happen over night — Ron once shared the secret behind their longterm relationship.
“People say, ‘How’d you do it?’ There’s no technique. There’s no tactic other than communication is really important,” the A Beautiful Mind director once explained to People. “You have to learn to communicate and have difficult conversations in constructive ways.”
“Beyond that, there’s an element of luck because people either grow together or they don’t and I don’t think you can force that,” the Happy Days alum added. But who is this wonderful woman that captured Ron’s heart? Find out below!
Who is she?
Cheryl was born on December 23, 1953 to parents Charles Alley and Vivian Schmidt.
What does she do?
Cheryl may not be in Hollywood like her husband, but she has also gone the creative route — Cheryl is a writer and has written a novel titled In the Face of Jinn. “As a child I was consumed with adventure stories, fairy tales, and real life accounts of people who had traveled around the globe,” Cheryl explained on her website’s bio.
“I didn’t start writing until the age of 22 and English was never my strong point, but I do, dearly, love a good yarn. Especially, if afterwards, I’m just a little more aware of the world around me,” she added.
Has she acted?
Since her man is all about movies, it should come as no surprise that Cheryl has appeared in some of his films including, Angels and Demons, Ransom and Splash.
Had she walk down the aisle before?
According to Cheryl, she married “high school sweetheart at the age of 21.” That sweetheart of course being Ron — this has been the only time she has said I do.
Life has a mom
Cheryl is of course all about her kids, and has done her best to pass down nothing but the best to them. “I feel very fortunate to come from my family and actually when I first started acting I was just ‘Bryce Dallas,’ and my parents one day asked me like ‘are you not proud of our family?’ And so yeah, I love my family,” her eldest daughter once told reporters at the Dads (TIFF Docs) premiere at Toronto International Film Festival in Toronto.
Cheryl is quite the partner in crime!
