Ron Howard has excelled throughout his career as a Hollywood director and actor, but he hasn’t been on the incredible journey alone. Throughout more than the last four decades, the legendary star has had the loving support of his wife, Cheryl Howard.

In 1975, the Oscar winner tied the knot with his high school sweetheart, and ever since then, the couple has kept their incredible bond strong. Throughout the early years of their marriage, the pair became the proud parents of their four children: daughter Bryce Dallas Howard; twins Paige Howard and Jocelyn Howard; and their youngest child, son Reed Howard.

Even though Ron and Cheryl are as happy as can be, maintaining a solid marriage over 46 years doesn’t just happen overnight. Fortunately, the Andy Griffith Show alum and the Paper actress have found the secret behind their long-term romance.

“People say, ‘How’d you do it?’ There’s no tactic other than communication is really important,” Ron dished to People in June 2019. “You have to learn to communicate and have difficult conversations in constructive ways.”

It doesn’t hurt that Cheryl has been her hubby’s rock from the very first moment they met. “[Cheryl] has made so many good things possible, and so many difficult things manageable. I’m forever grateful,” the Arrested Development star once marveled on Instagram. “She’s unbelievably supportive and always has been. Our compatibility has endured through all kinds of experiences.”

In June 2021, Ron proved the two were going strong when they celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. Alongside an adorable selfie of the longtime lovebirds, the Da Vinci Code producer expressed how grateful he feels to have shared so many unforgettable moments with Cheryl.

“Our 46th wedding anniversary. Celebrated quietly but beautifully [in Australia] on my day off from directing #ThirteenLives for #MGM and @imagineentertainment,” he gushed in the caption. “I’m a lucky fella.”

Looking back on their unbreakable romance, Ron considers himself a fortunate man for many reasons. Considering the two met and fell in love at a very young age, he doesn’t take for granted the life he created with Cheryl.

“I felt really lucky when we met. It’s crazy,” he recalled to the Huffington Post in 2013. “We were teenagers, it shouldn’t have worked. We got married young, that shouldn’t have worked either, and yet it really and truly has.”
