Everyone needs a break. Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan (née Markle) are looking to spend some well-deserved R&R with their son, Baby Archie, after recently making headlines for their “struggle” of living in the spotlight following their tour of Africa earlier this month … and it looks like they’re heading home to the royal mom’s native California!

“The couple is planning lots of fun family activities during their time in L.A. —  hiking, picnics, dinners and much more,” a royal insider close to the pair exclusively told Closer Weekly of the their upcoming vacation plans. “They want to make the most of the glorious weather L.A. has to offer and be outdoors.”

Considering they live in rainy London, the source added that the Duke of Sussex, 35, is especially looking forward to basking in the gorgeous California sunshine. “Harry can’t wait to get back on the surfboard,” the insider explained. “They’re super excited about taking Archie to a private beach in Malibu, which is where they’re staying.” Aww!

While a portion of their vacation will include fun-filled family trips to the beach, the insider explained that Meghan, 38, can’t wait to reunite with her beloved friends and family. “What Meghan’s most excited about is seeing [her mom] Doria and her friends,” the source shared. “And Archie spending his first Thanksgiving with those closest to her.” How exciting!

A previous source recently told Closer that the royal prince and the former Suits actress — who welcomed their 3-month-old son Archie this past May — were “hoping to go” to the U.S. for Thanksgiving because “it’s always been a big deal to Meghan.”

News of the couple’s holiday festivities comes just days after Meghan opened up about adjusting to life as a new royal. While chatting with ITV News at Ten anchor Tom Bradby for the upcoming ABC documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, which airs on ABC on Wednesday, October 23, at 10 p.m. ET, the actress-turned-duchess got candid about how hard it’s been living in the public eye.

“Especially as a woman it’s really — it’s a lot,” Meghan confessed. “So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom and trying to be a newlywed. … And also thank you for asking, because not many people will have asked if I’m OK. But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”

We hope Meghan and Harry enjoy their well-need time off with their little bundle of joy!
