It’s no surprise that Meghan Markle‘s first royal baby experience was much different than her sister-in-law Kate Middleton‘s, considering her and Prince Harry have been stretching traditional royal norms since the beginning of their relationship. Prior to welcoming her first baby boy, whose name has yet to be released, on Monday, May 6, fans wondered if the Duchess of Sussex would follow in Kate’s footsteps and partake in royal traditions like snapping photos outside the hospital as the royal baby makes his debut.

While Kate and William always pose for pics outside the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital on the day of the birth, Meg and Harry didn’t release pics of Baby Sussex until two days later on Wednesday, May 8. In the highly awaited snaps, the new mom — who reportedly gave birth in a hospital and not at Frogmore Cottage like she had planned, according to Us Weekly — and her hubby can be seen smiling and posing with their newborn son at St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle.

It’s not surprising that the 37-year-old beauty wanted to mix things up considering a source close to Meg and Harry exclusively dished the plans that the couple had to Closer Weekly. “Meghan is adamant that her baby follows her modern approach to life,” the insider explained. “She’s adamant that her child will be brought up as an open-minded individual.”

While Meg and Harry, 34, have been vocal about their plans of raising their kid in a not-so-traditional way, the former Suits actress’ pregnancy journey was also much different from the Duchess of Cambridge. “Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement in mid-April, just weeks before Meg and Harry became the proud parents to baby No. 1. “The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

Though the happy couple stayed hush-hush regarding most details about her pregnancy, much of Kate’s was known to the public ahead of her kids’ arrivals. In fact, ITV’s Chris Ship recently pointed out that plans for Kate, 37, and Prince William‘s third child, Prince Louis, were shared with the media two months prior to his birth. He added that the media was also well-prepared ahead of the birth of Prince George, 5, and Princess Charlotte, 4, as well.

Although we’d love to know every detail about their little bundle of joy, we respect Meg and Harry for wanting some privacy as they soak up these next few weeks. We can’t wait to watch Baby Sussex grow up!
