A close bond. Maya Hawke may just be landing on the Hollywood radar, but she’s always had the support of her very famous parents, Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.

The 21-year-old recently sat down with WSJ Magazine, and revealed just how much her folks mean to her. “I’m always running decisions by them. They both have similar levels of success but really different experiences within the business,” the young actress told the outlet. “I think that’s the biggest advantage [I have], that I have information about the pitfalls and the good things. Hopefully it’ll keep me from making some mistakes that young actors can make.”

The Training Day star, 48, and the Kill Bill actress, 49 were married from 1998 to 2005. Aside from their eldest, they also have a son, Levon, 17.

Now that Maya is grabbing the attention of many people — she has roles in Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Netflix’s Stranger Things — she finds herself not needing her parents as much these days. “I have more money, so I don’t have to ask my parents for it anymore. That’s amazing,” she explained. “Let’s put it this way: I have a lot more independence and freedom.”

“I really think that nothing improves your relationships more than independence,” Maya continued. “The less you need from anyone, the more you can really see them and get along and love each other. And so, that’s been the biggest change probably — is that freedom creates possibilities.”

However, Maya did get a bit of help from her dad when it came to landing the role in her latest film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. “I got an audition for the project through the normal channels through my agents and I did an audition in my bedroom with my dad,” Maya recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “We sent in the tape to Quentin and I got a callback,” she continued, adding that the callback process “was unlike anything I’ve ever been through … except for maybe audition for drama school.“

“We worked on the scene in many different ways and in many different combinations of people,” Maya said of the tough audition process. “Eventually he found a group of people who were doing the scene in a way that he liked. And then everyone went home and people got the call.”

We’re just glad that Maya has two great parents in her corner!
