She may have suffered the loss of three failed marriages in the past, but Jennifer Lopez wasn’t going to let heartbreak stand in the way of her finding true love again. The Second Act star, is happily engaged to Alex Rodriguez, recently opened up about why she never gave up on finding her Prince Charming — and why she thinks the former professional baseball player is the one.

“We just get along,” the 49-year-old beauty gushed about why she’s grateful for her relationship during an appearance on the May 6 episode of Today. “We just complement each other. He’s super supportive. He allows me to be who I am, and I want him to shine in the greatest way possible and be his best self. We just help each other be better people in a way.”

Luckily, the World of Dance star was determined to not give up on finding her happily ever after. “I always planned to get married again,” she admitted. “I want to spend my life with somebody. I want to grow old with somebody. I think that’s the goal, right? To find a partner to kind of walk through this crazy thing with.”

If Jen had given up on love, she would have never found happiness with her soon-to-be hubby. “It wasn’t a shock,” she admitted of Alex, 43, and his highly anticipated beach-side proposal. “We had spoken about it, obviously, but it was a shock that day. I didn’t know it was happening that day.”

The brunette beauty dished that the couple — who looked better than ever as they walked the red carpet together at the 2019 Met Gala later that day — are extremely compatible thanks to similar upbringings. “We kind of both got in the public eye very young, both had our hard moments in the public eye. But at the same time, we keep coming back,” she told the hosts. “We both have a lot of respect and admiration for each other. And he helps me — he helps me where I’m weak, and I help him where he’s weak. He makes me stronger. That’s what it is.”

The “On the Floor” singer added that a healthy, loving relationship isn’t the only bonus of their strong union. “We have four stellar kids,” Jen gushed of her 11-year-old twins, Max and Emme, and Alex’s children, Natasha, 14, and Ella, 11, from previous relationships. “It’s crazy. It’s crazy what they have to go through with two traveling parents and all of us coming together. It’s not an easy thing. But somehow it works really well. There’s just a lot of love there.”

We couldn’t be happier for Jen, Alex and their blended brood!
