Barack and Michelle have a love story that could withstand the test of time! When the former first lady spoke to Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts ahead of the release of her new memoir, Becoming, she opened up about the first time she met her husband in Chicago.

“He was like, ‘You’re crazy. We should date. I like you. You like me,'” Michelle recalled. “I like that about him. He was very straightforward.”

It didn’t take Michelle a long time to fall for Barack either. “He played it real smooth,” the beauty said. “He just leaned in for a kiss. And that really was it. You know, from that kiss on … it was love. And he was my man.”

Michelle might have had her doubts at first, but once she was around Barack, it was like nothing else mattered. “As soon as I allowed myself to feel anything for Barack, the feelings came rushing — a toppling blast of lust, gratitude, fulfillment and wonder,” she wrote in Becoming.

Oh my! Michelle also told Robin she was very attracted to Barack — but can you blame her? He’s a very handsome man! “I don’t know what to tell you,” the former first lady gushed. “It was there. It still is. I love my husband a lot.”

Even though things may look great on the outside, Michelle admits her marriage has been anything but easy. In fact, it takes a lot of work.

“I know too many young couples who struggle and think that somehow there’s something wrong with them,” she explained to Robin. “And I want them to know that Michelle and Barack Obama, who have a phenomenal marriage and who love each other, we work on our marriage. And we get help with our marriage when we need it.”

Life after the White House has been amazing for the couple too! “We are finding each other again,” Michelle gushed to People in November 2018. “We have dinners alone and chunks of time where it’s just us — what we were when we started this thing: no kids, no publicity, no nothing. Just us and our dreams.”

Even though the two politicians love their kids, they still love their alone time just as much. When they previously went on a getaway to Palm Springs without their daughters, they got to fall in love with each other all over again.

“The first time in a long time it was just the two of us,” Michelle recalled to People about their vacation. “And it was good.”

What else did they do? “We swam, we sat, and he wrote because he’s still writing his book. So he’s a little resentful,” Michelle laughed. How cute!

Still to this day, Michelle can’t imagine spending the rest of her life with anyone else but her wonderful husband, Barack!

“There were definitely times when I wished things were different,” she confessed. “But I don’t think I ever thought, ‘I’m just checking out of this.’” Aww!
