PHOTOSJon Voight Supports Once-Estranged Daughter Angelina Jolie at Her Latest Movie Premiere
Though their father-daughter relationship has been rocky in past years, Jon Voight and Angelina Jolie finally seem to be on good terms. The 78-year-old actor recently showed his support for his filmmaker daughter, 42, by accompanying Angelina and her six children to the NYC premiere of her newest movie, First They Killed My Father.
For the special occasion, Angelina looked gorgeous in a gray, strapless, Dior Haute Couture gown. She accessorized the glam look with simple diamond jewelry and a bold red lip. Her father, Jon, appeared dapper in a navy blue suit, blue shirt, and a charcoal crosshatch tie. Though Angie and Jon did not pose together on the red carpet, many fans were just happy to see that the two seem to have a positive relationship today.
According to Angelina, Jon has recently been a great support to her six kids — Maddox, 16, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and twins Knox and Vivienne, both 9 — since she split from their dad, Brad Pitt, in September 2016. “He’s been very good at understanding they needed their grandfather at this time,” the Oscar winner told Vanity Fair in July.
“I had to do a therapy meeting last night and he was just around. He knows kind of the rule — don’t make them play with you. Just be a cool grandpa who’s creative, and hang out, and tell stories and read a book in the library,” Angelina added. “It’s hard for me to be away from my grandkids, yes, but I’ll stay in touch with them. Thank God we have this technology, and you know, we use all of it,” Jon said of his family in a previous interview.
Jon and Angelina were previously estranged for nearly seven years from 2003 until 2010. “Angie and I don’t want to say much [regarding how our relationship ended],” the actor once said. In 2010, Angelina’s mother and Jon’s ex-wife, Marcheline Bertrand, sadly passed away from cancer — and her death brought Angie and her father back together.
