Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson Kids: Blended Family of 4 Children

Soulmates Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have created a beautiful life together. After getting married in April 1988, they welcomed their two sons, Chet and Truman Hanks. Tom worked hard to provide for his children and his two older kids, Colin and Elizabeth Hanks, from his first marriage to Samantha Lewes.

He showed the world just how special they are to him when he was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2020 Golden Globes. “I’m sorry,” he said while looking at his kids and Colin’s wife, Samantha Bryant, in the audience. “A man is blessed with a family sitting down front like that. A wife who is fantastic in every way, who has taught me what love is. Five kids who are braver and stronger and wiser than their old man is.”

“And a loving group of people who have put [up] with me being away months and months and months at a time,” he added. “Of course, otherwise I wouldn’t be standing up here if they didn’t have to put up with that. I can’t tell you how much your love means to me.”

In his speech, Tom said he had five kids because he sees Samantha as one of his children. The Toy Story actor welcomed her into his life when the publicist got married to Colin in May 2010. One year later, they welcomed daughter Olivia Hanks and their second child, Charlotte Hanks, in 2013. Like his dad, Colin decided to pursue a career in acting to take care of his family.

In a previous interview with TV Insider, the House Bunny star revealed the best acting advice he ever got from his Oscar-winning dad. “I’ve been doing this for so long now that there’s no real advice aside from what he told me very early on, which is show up on time, have your lines memorized, and prepare to work.”

Because of that important life lesson, Colin has starred in many TV shows and films like Jumanji: The Next Level and Fargo. However, he isn’t the only one who has seen a lot of success. His siblings have done very well for themselves too.

Colin Hanks

Colin is by far Tom’s most recognizable son and not just because he’s the spitting image of his dad! The actor made his Hollywood debut in popular teen comedies like Get Over It and Orange County before transitioning to adult fare with TV roles on Dexter and Fargo. He snagged a guest role on the funny sitcom American Dad and in the horror film It: Chapter Two.

In 2021, Colin stole the show in Impeachment: American Crime Story with his portrayal of Mike Emmick. He began filming The Offer, a biographical mini-series on Paramount+ premiering on the platform in April 2022. It was also announced in February 2022 that the Emmy nominee would be joining the crime drama A Friend of the Family on Peacock. Through all of his success, the actor has remembered his father’s great advice to live in the moment.

“I think, if there was anything, it’s while it may go fast in the rearview mirror and it may feel like it’s gone too quick, or sometimes maybe it feels like it goes too painstakingly slow, life is long, and there’s a lot of time to be able to do the things that you want to do and the things that you need to do,” he said recalling his father’s wisdom in an August 2021 interview with Hollywood Life.

Elizabeth Hanks

Elizabeth has put her English degree to work! Under the name E.A. Hanks, she’s an LA-based writer who has worked as a Vanity Fair staffer and a HuffPost associate news editor in addition to being a contributor for TIME, Jezebel, and The New York Times. Elizabeth’s dad even gave her and her “blue pencil” and “sharp, honest eyes” a shout-out in the acknowledgments of his 2017 short story collection, Uncommon Type.

Chet Hanks

Chet is both an actor and a rapper. He’s known for playing Blake in Empire and Jimmy Grimm in Fantastic Four. He’s also starred in other movies like Project X and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. He is a father to daughter Micaiah, born in 2016, with ex-girlfriend Tiffany Miles.

Chet announced on Instagram in January 2022 that he wanted to pursue a career in personal training and focus on nutrition and fitness. He encouraged his followers to join his fitness program and trust him as their coach.

Truman Hanks

Truman is a graduate of Stanford University and has worked as an intern at the production company Bad Robot, where he served as a production assistant on various J.J. Abrams movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In 2021, Truman worked on several episodes of the Netflix series Atypical, as well as serving as a photography assistant on Steven Spielberg’s adaption of West Side Story. Although he’s done his best to stay out of the spotlight, the paparazzi caught him taking a trip to Disneyland with his parents for his 21st birthday.
