They were married for over 40 years, so it should come as no surprise that Rita Moreno‘s husband Leonard Gordon was a big part of her life — but who is the West Side Story star’s late spouse?

The actress and her love tied the knot in 1965 — and they remained married until Leonard’s death in 2010. However, the actress did once reveal that she will never walk down the aisle again. “Someone asked me recently if I would countenance on being married again and my answer was simple. I’d rather eat glass,” she told People in an interview. “I don’t want to get married. No, no, no, no, no.” Rita also explained that she did consider splitting from Leonard, but ultimately stuck with him for the sake of their child.

“I come from that era. I come from an era when you were supposed to obey the man in the family,” the Oscar winner told the outlet. “I didn’t know how to write a check for the longest time. I couldn’t even tell you when that was. But it was more recent than you might think.”

“I also feel that people who are in love very often collude. It’s a silent pact that people very often make in the sense that — in my case, it was ‘I’ll be the little girl, and you be the daddy.’ And that stopped working, of course, cause the little girl wanted to grow up and that’s when the trouble started. So I wasn’t happily married for a very long time,” she added.
