Is a small screen reunion of one of TV’s most iconic duos in the works?! That’s what it sounds like as Regis Philbin is apparently asking Kathie Lee Gifford to team up once again to rule daytime television like the good old days!

According to Radar Online, the 87-year-old is ready to head back to TV after a seven-year showbiz hiatus. “Things haven’t been great for Regis since then,” a source told the outlet, adding, “And he believes Kathie Lee is his ticket back into the spotlight.” The pair were an unstoppable team from 1988 to 2000 with their show Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee. And now, the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host hopes the fun with KLG, 65, can continue.

“Regis is begging Kathie Lee to go out on the road with him and play theaters and casinos,” a friend revealed. “He did well when he toured with his old pal Don Rickles … But Don died in 2017 and Regis feels like he needs a partner to make his act work.” The source added, “He’s itching to get back in the game, and he feels bantering onstage with Kathie Lee and doing some duets with her will bring the old magic back!”

It’s no surprise that the former television host is aiming to get his pal back as Kathie Lee will soon be a free agent in April when she leaves Hoda Kotb‘s side on Today after 11 years. However, getting KLG and Regis back together on the small screen may not be an easy feat, especially since Kathie Lee is reportedly concerned about her former costar’s age and health. “Kathie Lee loves that Regis still has this enthusiasm for working, but it isn’t 2000 any longer,” the friend continued. “It’s a case of her fearing Regis’ mind is willing, but his body is weak.”

The Million Dollar Password host once underwent an angioplasty in 1993, triple bypass surgery in 2007, and needed a hip replacement in 2009. But that’s not all as Regis also had a deadly blood clot cut from his calf in 2010, so you can’t blame Kathie Lee for being worried about her dear friend.

For now, Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest are doing well on Live!, but it remains to be seen if Regis and Kathie Lee will make a return to TV and duke it out with the current duo in the ratings — stay tuned!
