Soon after Meghan Markle gave birth to a baby boy, her first child, Prince Harry stepped out to  update the public on how she and their newborn are doing.

“Meghan and myself had a baby boy early this morning, a very healthy boy,” Harry begins. “Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. It’s been the most amazing experience I could possibly imagine.”

“How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension, but we are both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the love and support from everyone out there,” he adds. “It’s been amazing. So we just wanted to share this with everybody.”

The official announcement, which was posted to the royal couple’s Instagram, confirmed the birth as well as the baby’s weight — but didn’t give us a name just yet.

“We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz,” the post reads. “The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.”

This came soon after it was announced that Meghan was in labor, the first indication that the royal baby would be arriving sooner rather than later.

In a statement from Buckingham Palace, the baby’s time of birth is listed as 5:26 a.m. on May 6. It is also confirmed that Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, is “overjoyed” that she was there for this special moment.

“The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage,” the statement reveals. “Her Royal Highness and the baby are both doing well.

Other members of the royal family were “informed and are delighted with the news,” the statement continues, indicating that they were not present for the actual birth. These include Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William, Kate Middleton and others.
