Triple ‘Jeopardy!’ — A Guide to Late Star Alex Trebek’s 3 Wonderful Kids Matthew, Emily and Nicky

For years, we have seen him grace our television set as the host of the iconic game show Jeopardy!, but there was a lot more to Alex Trebek than just tossing out trivia to thousands of people — he was also a devoted husband and father.

The late TV personality was married to Elaine Trebek Kares from 1974 to 1981. Although the pair did not have any kids together, Alex did adopt Elaine’s daughter Nicky before he married his second wife, Jean Currivan Trebek, in 1990. That same year, the game show host welcomed his first child with Jean, son Matthew Trebek. Then three years later, the couple became parents again when they brought their beautiful daughter, Emily Trebek, into the world.

“My wife Jean and I have been together almost 29 years, and I was thinking about President Bush when he died, and all the comments about his life about what a nice guy he is and how he and his wife had been together 73 years. I thought, oh my gosh … if I’d just met Jean in my 20s, we could have had a longer life together,” Alex once told People about his marriage. However, he understood that not only has he been lucky to have such a wonderful wife but three kids too.

“They’re really sharp and have done their due diligence in their respective endeavors,” he told the outlet, before Jean added, “They’re both very compassionate, sensitive people. They’re really the best of Alex and I. You can talk to them. They’re our good friends.”

While recalling her favorite childhood memories, Nicky said she would never forget a trip she took with her dad to a wine symposium in Hawaii. “I wasn’t a kid, but Vincent Price attended and I got to sit next to him at a dinner,” she gushed to Entertainment Tonight. “Needless to say, it was unforgettable. Bonus: On that trip, he told me he was going to marry Jean and I could see how happy he was!”

Unfortunately, Alex’s children had to say goodbye to their beloved father. The TV host died in November 2020 following a nearly two-year battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
