Since most of you have probably been distracted by Jaden Smith and his glorious Twitter feed, you may have forgotten that Will Smith actually has another son that we don’t hear much about: Trey Smith. But it’s all about Trey now as his dad recently spoke about their relationship on Instagram.

The 50-year-old actor, who you can soon see playing the Genie in the live action Aladdin movie I will pay all the money to see, decided to share some insight into his relationship with his 26-year-old son Trey.

“I’m in Abu Dhabi at the F1 [Formula 1 Grande Prix]. I brought my son, Trey,” the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air explained on Instagram as photos of the pair were displayed. “We’ve been hanging and I usually take my kids separately on stuff so they have their individual daddy time.” Will goes on to reveal a conversation he had with Trey at the F1, saying, “So we’ve been doing this, hanging at the F1, and he said, ‘You know what dad? I just realized you’re not just my dad. I’m pretty sure you’re my best friend.’ I was like, [exhales], ‘Yeah man, prolly. Prolly.’“

Wow, like a punch in the gut. It also doesn’t help that Will gets emotional upon saying this, which is like another punch to the gut. Will also happened to include this in the video’s caption: “It has not always been like this between Trey & I. We STRUGGLED FOR YEARS after my Divorce from his Mother [actress Sheree Zampino]. He felt betrayed & abandoned. It is a Wild Blessing to recover & restore a Loving Relationship with My Beautiful Son!”

Take a look at the video below. It’s best to play “Cat’s in the Cradle” by Harry Chapin in the background while watching.

Trey did end up commenting on this sweet video, saying, “Awwwww shucks you too big guy.” Now I don’t know what Jaden thinks about all this but I’m going to use one of his recent tweets and assume this is close to something he would say in response:

I feel you Jaden. I really do.
