Before we know it, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s first royal baby will be here. But does that mean we’ll be seeing less and less of the Duchess of Sussex once that happens? Well, if she follows in her sister-in-law Kate Middleton‘s footsteps, then she will take maternity leave before and after the bundle of joy arrives.

At this stage, it’s unclear what Meghan plans to do, but it’s likely she’ll take maternity leave. However, there are no rules in place for how much time royal women should take, so how long she’ll be home with the baby is at Meghan’s discretion.

Kate, however, took six months off after welcoming Prince Louis in late April since she didn’t return to work until October. She first went on maternity leave in March. However, when she welcomed Prince George, she took off a month before his birth and returned to work in August, one month after he was born. With Princess Charlotte, she went on maternity leave in March, welcomed her in May, and returned to work four months later.

As you can see, the Duchess of Cambridge’s situation was different with all three of her kids. That said, it can be assumed that Meghan and Harry will make a decision as a couple on how long Meg should step aside from her royal duties for baby No. 1.

Whether or not Meghan takes time off for their future son or daughter, it’s been reported that Harry is prepared to help his lady by doing all he can to meet her pregnancy needs.

“lf Meghan has any requests, they’ll be met. And Harry has already shown how protective he is of her,” an insider recently told Closer UK. “lf he wants to be by Meghan’s side after the baby is born, throughout her whole maternity leave, he’ll do it.” What a guy!
