While opening up about the self-doubt she felt as she played the role of Donna Martin on Beverly Hills 90210, Tori Spelling revealed how she’s working overtime to make sure her two daughters don’t suffer like she did. As she detailed her heartbreaking insecurities in an extremely candid Instagram post on Thursday, December 12, the doting mom of five dished how she’s instilling confidence in her two little ladies.

“Because of Donna Martin, I tell my girls every day they are good enough, smart, beautiful and can be anyone they want to be,” the 46-year-old beauty wrote of daughters Stella, 11, and Hattie, 8. “But never be who everyone expects you to be! Be you.”

Fake it till you make it… – I was a young really insecure teenager that never thought I was good enough. Yet, I was on a hugely successful tv show playing a beautiful popular teen that had it all together. A character that girls everywhere looked up too and boys adored. Off camera I didn’t feel at all beautiful or good about myself. – But, in this pic I was ALL IN for the camera! “ Playing ” Donna Martin would be model 😂Goes to show that perception is not always reality. – Now, I look back at that young insecure girl and I give her HUGE props. She stepped up and went for it. I wish I could have off camera hugged her and told her she was good enough and was beautiful just the way she was. Life is hard enough for teens living up to the expectations the world, society, and peers put on us… let alone being on camera weekly in front of millions. Don’t get me wrong… one of the best times of my life!So blessed and grateful for the successful tv series I got to be a part of and will always cherish the #90210 cast that became my family and friends and relationships that would continue for a lifetime. I just wish I wouldn’t have been so hard on myself. Let myself “off camera” be the girl I felt I was “on camera”. – Bc of Donna Martin I tell my girls everyday they are good enough, smart, beautiful, and can be anyone they want to be. But never be who everyone expects you to be! Be you. #donnamartingraduates #beverlyhills90210 #bh90210 #tbt

In her emotional essay, Tori — who is also the mom of sons Liam, 12, Finn, 7, and Beau, 2, with husband Dean McDermott — explained why she is so determined to make sure her daughters don’t experience similar insecurities. “Life is hard enough for teens living up to the expectations the world, society and peers put on us,” she continued. “Let alone being on camera weekly in front of millions.”

The BH90210 star initially wrote the essay to confess how uncomfortable she truly felt while starring in the ’90s hit drama series. “I was a young, really insecure teenager that never thought I was good enough,” she admitted. “Yet, I was on a hugely successful TV show playing a beautiful popular teen that had it all together.”

Tori explained that although she portrayed a character “that girls everywhere looked up too and boys adored,” she still struggled with feeling confident. “Off camera I didn’t feel at all beautiful or good about myself,” she revealed. “But, in this picture I was ALL IN for the camera! ‘Playing’ Donna Martin would be model … Goes to show that perception is not always reality,” she said, referring to the old headshot she shared in her post.

Now that’s she older, Tori wishes she wasn’t so hard on herself. “I look back at that young insecure girl and I give her HUGE props,” the Scary Movie 2 actress stated. “She stepped up and went for it. I wish I could have off-camera hugged her and told her she was good enough and was beautiful just the way she was.” Wow!

Fans of the Spelling It Like It Is author commended her for being such an amazing mama. “Empowering message,” one fan wrote in the comment section of her post, while another echoed, “Gave me goose bumps. You are amazing!!” A third fan chimed in, writing, “Beautiful message. Beautiful Tori.”

Considering the True Tori star is such a protective mama bear to her adorable brood of five, it’s no surprise that Tori stands up against the haters when it comes to her children. While previously chatting with Closer Weekly and others reporters about her family’s Halloween festivities, Tori defended her choice to let Stella and Hattie dye their hair pink.

“It was a costume dress party where girls can be anything they want to be,” she said at the time, adding, “Screw the shamers!”

Tori is such an inspiring lady.
