Tatum O’Neal Reveals Her Dad Ryan Is ‘Trying to Get His Heart Fixed Up’ — See the Photo
They were previously estranged for almost 20 years, but Tatum O’Neal is making sure to spend as much time with her father, Ryan O’Neal, as she can today. On Tuesday, February 12, the 55-year-old actress took to Instagram to post a now-deleted photo that showed her at her 77-year-old father’s side in what looks like a doctor’s office as he was getting a check-up by a medical professional.
“With my legendary dad!” Tatum captioned the photo. “Trying to get his heart fixed up!!” See the photo Tatum shared about Ryan’s health below.

In the snapshot, Ryan can be seen sitting in a medical chair with a tube attached to his nose while wearing a black sweatshirt and scarf. Meanwhile, Tatum is seated nearby in a chair also wearing all-black. The picture was deleted a bit after it was originally posted — the reason why is not yet known — but it’s nice to see the pair sticking together through these tough times, especially since the Bad News Bears star has had many ups and downs with her dad over the years.
In the past, Tatum also dealt with addiction and a rough divorce from her ex-husband John McEnroe, whom she was married to from 1986 to 1994. The Oscar winner once talked about her past marriage in an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly.
“I had a number of rock bottoms. I never wanted to stay in it because of the love I had for my children,” Tatum — who is a mom to adult kids Kevin, 32, Sean, 31, and Emily, 27 — said at the time. “I think we have a lot in common now, and you become more like comrades. I have a lot of joy in my life.”
“I feel like I’m more grounded now and know myself better. It just took me so long to figure things out. I just wish I knew then what I know now,” Tatum continue, adding that she enjoys being a “devoted mother.”
In 1974, Tatum starred alongside her famous father, Ryan, in Paper Moon and ultimately became the youngest person ever to win an Academy Award at the age of 10. As for her dad, he is perhaps best known for starring in the 1970 classic Love Story, a role that snagged him his own Oscar nomination. Here’s hoping Ryan is feeling better and that the two can continue to stick by each other’s side.
