An important request. While Meghan Markle has been criticized left and right in the past ever since entering the royal family after marrying Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex wants her role to be a lot more casual than tradition states.

According to a reporter from The Telegraph, the former actress, 38, informs others that they don’t refer to her by her formal title. The outlet also reveals that the Suits alum doesn’t “want people to love her,” as she instead prefers to be heard. This is key when Meghan is discussing issues that are close to her, including mental health.

It has been clear from the get-go that Meghan was going to do things differently when she became a duchess. In fact, the mother-of-one was recently quite open about how she has been doing with the major transition in her life and being under the spotlight — something that royals don’t traditionally do.

“Especially as a woman it’s really — it’s a lot,” Meghan told ITV News at Ten anchor Tom Bradby for the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey. “So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom and trying to be a newlywed. … And also thank you for asking, because not many people will have asked if I’m OK. But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”

Meghan goes on to confess that it’s been tough adjusting to her new royal life. “Look, any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable,” she continued during the interview. “And so that was made really challenging, and then, when you have a new born, you know?” Meghan also revealed that she never expected all of this scrutiny when she first started dating the Duke of Sussex, 35.

“In all fairness, I had no idea, which probably sounds difficult to understand and hear,” Meghan said. “But when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy but my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life.'”

“And I very naively — I’m American,” she continued. “We don’t have that there — [I said,] ‘What are you talking about? That doesn’t make any sense. I’m not in any tabloids. I didn’t get it. So it’s been, yeah, it’s been complicated.”

We only hope that things are improving for Meghan!
