So sweet! Duchess Meghan Markle honored Princess Diana during her first royal outing since announcing her pregnancy, and she did it in the sweetest way: by wearing her late mother-in-law’s jewelry.

Meghan and Prince Harry are on their first overseas tour together as a married couple, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently in Sydney, Australia. Meghan was spotted wearing a white, form-fitting, sleeveless dress by Australian designer Karen Gee. A royal fan account, “The Royal Watcher,” pointed out that Meghan adorned her dress with a pair of butterfly earrings that were previously worn by Princess Diana during a trip to Canada on May 3, 1986.

“I’ve just had official confirmation of this,” Rebecca English, Daily Mail‘s royal correspondent tweeted referring to the connection the account made. “Really touching to think that Harry’s mother’s personal jewelry is now being worn by the daughter-in-law she never got to meet.” Another fan account, “Meghan’s Mirror,” also connected the dots that Meghan was wearing Diana’s gold bracelet, which she wore while she visited East London in 1990.

This is not the first time the former actress paid tribute to Diana with a sweet gesture. In fact, on the day of Harry and Meghan’s wedding, the Duchess wore Princess Diana’s aquamarine ring that she famously wore to an auction of her own clothes in 1997.

Meghan has also channeled her inner Princess Diana on countless occasions by wearing similar dresses, hats, and most importantly: the inclusion of diamonds from Diana’s jewelry collection on Meghan’s engagement ring that Harry designed. “Not being able to meet his mother, it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us,” Meghan said in an interview with the BBC in November 2017 after getting engaged.

Our hearts are just melting at how much Meghan cares about keeping Princess Diana’s legacy alive. We can’t imagine how much this must mean to Harry! “They’d be thick as thieves, without question,” Harry said during the interview with BBC. “I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know so excited for me, but then, as I said, would have probably been best friends with Meghan.” We can’t wait to see how else Meghan will honor Princess Diana in the future, especially when their little one arrives!
