The wedding’s off. Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp have called off their engagement and split up after eight years together.

“She had enough and ended [their engagement],” a source recently revealed to Us Weekly. “She has no regrets.”

However, this isn’t the first time they’ve broken up. After they initially started dating in 2011, they called it quits in 2014. Later that year, they got back together but then went their separate ways in 2015. They decided to give it another go in 2017 and John, 68, proposed to Meg, 57, in 2018. The two have seemingly been happy for the past year, being spotted in New York on two occasions and if there’s anyone who’s upset they have broken up, it must be John’s 38-year-old daughter, Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave.

“I’m thrilled. They are such an amazing couple,” she previously gushed to Closer Weekly about her dad’s engagement to the You’ve Got Mail star. “They are both smart and funny. Their conversations are interesting and like watching a ping-pong match. They really bring out the best in each other — like all good couples do.”

After their engagement was announced, John and Meg were in complete bliss. A source told Closer that the couple were “truly happy” together and were “solid” in their relationship.

“At this age, they want no drama, they want easy. So they both are conscious about that. John is laid-back, although he admittedly can act childish at times and can be moody,” the source said in January. “Meg is more stressed but she does yoga every day and works on being more ‘Zen,’ as she says. So since their relationship has been on and off since 2011, now they are solid and they are grateful and don’t want to do anything to screw it up.”

Meg was so in love with John that she was looking to buy a house with him in NYC. “In Manhattan, they are constantly recognized, so they want an oasis, a haven out of the spotlight,” a separate insider revealed to Closer Weekly. “They’re both very private people and love nature, so it’s a mutual desire.”

If there’s anything we can learn from history, it’s that John and Meg are crazy about each other! We wouldn’t be surprised if they rekindled their relationship.
