Country star Luke Bryan is talented, (extremely) handsome, and honest. In a new interview, the “Crash My Party” singer didn’t hesitate to share that his wife, Caroline Boyer, was the breadwinner in their relationship and financially supported him before his career took off.

During an episode of Pickler & Ben on Monday, Nov. 19, Luke, 42, explained how his wife, 38, came to the rescue when he was first trying to make it big as a country singer and songwriter. “When we got married, her career supported me when I was making about $10,000 a year,” he admitted. “She was the one bringing in the dough.”

The situation wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies, as you can imagine, and the couple even had an on-again, off-again relationship at some points. “We’d date a little in college, and then we’d break up,” Luke, who met Caroline at Georgia Southern University, said. “And then I would be devastated. We’d get back together, break up. Then she would be devastated.”

You know the saying, “If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, it’s yours forever. If it doesn’t, then it was never meant to be?” Well, it looks like Luke and Caroline’s relationship is the perfect example of that!

“We finally decided we were not going to break up anymore. And then I graduate college, and she has two more years, and then we break up again. It was like the Dark Ages for both of us,” Luke dished. The couple then spent some time apart — five-and-a-half years, to be exact. Luke said the time they spent broken up “was kind of a blessing because I went off to Nashville, got all this going.” In the meantime, Caroline “finished college” and “went and actually had a career,” he said.

The pair ended up getting back together after their break and got married in 2006 (further proving they are meant to be). Fast forward almost 12 years and the couple now share sons Tatum Christopher, 8, and Thomas Boyer, 10. The country crooner and his wife also take care of Luke’s nieces and nephew after Luke’s sister, Kelly, died in 2000 and his brother-in-law, Ben, died in 2014.

Since Luke’s country career took off faster than you can read this article, we’re sure he’s repaid Caroline back since then. He even upgraded her engagement ring as they celebrated a decade of marriage back in December 2016. “It was a little 10-year anniversary gift. Ten years with me feels like a thousand,” he joked to People at the time. “It was certainly the least I could do!”

If you’re wondering if the fame or money has gone to Luke’s head, we’ll let his right-hand woman answer that. “He was always a gentleman,” Caroline revealed in 2014. “We hung out as friends first and he never made a move on me. I kissed him first! He was always so scared of making a girl feel uncomfortable, he wouldn’t cross a line.” Luke and Caroline are seriously just too perfect!
