Mom-of-three Jennifer Garner is making sure to teach her kids to be thankful for all they have! During a new interview, the 13 Going on 30 star explained that she often takes her children, Violet Affleck, 13, Seraphina Affleck, 10, and Samuel Affleck, 6, back to her family farm in Oklahoma to teach them that they don’t always need material things to be happy.

“I want them to learn that we don’t need all kinds of stuff to be happy, and this is the perfect way to teach them that,” she said in a new interview with Heat magazine, according to the Daily Mail. Jennifer shares her kids with her ex-husband Ben Affleck and though her children have superstar parents, Jen admitted, “[We’re] a lot like most families, I would imagine!”

“Just being together during my time off and having fun. I love the laughter. Family is very important to me,” she added. Since they called it quits on their marriage in 2015, Jen, 46, and Ben, also 46, have both been working hard to be great coparents to their kids and even reportedly went to couples therapy to make their post-split relationship solid for their family.

“They may not be romantically linked anymore, but Ben and Jen will always be in each other’s lives, and that’s why they’re still in counseling,” an insider previously told Life & Style Weekly“They’re doing it for the kids mostly, but it also helps them communicate better and coparent more efficiently.”

“Even though they’ve had many problems in the past, they’re committed to raising their children the best way they can,” the source shared. “It’s a win-win situation for Ben and Jen, but especially for Violet, Seraphina and Samuel.”
