In a weekend that wasn’t filled with very good news from around the country, a little joy was brought to NBC’s Today show when Jenna Bush Hager, cohost of the show’s 10 a.m. hour, called in from the hospital with some tremendous joyous news on behalf or herself and husband Henry Hager.

“I have a new baby boy,” she announced to her colleagues and the world. “We met our little boy on Friday morning, so maternity leave happened at the perfect time. His name is Henry Harold, named after Harold my grandpa and Henry, of course. We weren’t exactly sure about the name, but then his big sisters arrived and they called him ‘Hal pal,’ and we thought, ‘This is just perfect.'”

In the aftermath of the c-section that brought Henry into the world, Jenna said she was feeling both good and happy, observing that when you’re holed up in a hospital room with a newborn and you see that joy and light, “you really realize that [we have to make] this world better for our little babies, and even though the news outside these walls isn’t so great, you see the joy in their eyes and know that that’s what we’re here to do: make their lives safe.”

She added that her whole family was there, including her parents, though her father, former President George W. Bush, was a “little mad” that the baby’s name wasn’t George, it seems he got over it pretty quickly. Jenna also noted that her daughters, Mila and Poppy, are thrilled that they have a little baby brother of their own.”

As to husband Henry’s feeling about having a new man in the house, Jenna laughed, “He knows that I have a new boyfriend.”

She concluded by noting, “We can’t wait to get home to be with our girls, although I don’t know what I’m saying, because then the chaos really begins.”

No word yet on exactly when Jenna and Henry will be bringing their son home. Congratulations on the blessed news!
