Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’ divorce from his wife of 25 years, MacKenzie Bezos, has sadly turned ugly. The National Enquirer revealed on the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 9 that Jeff, 54, has been having an affair with a married woman named Lauren Sanchez — whose husband is one of Hollywood’s biggest talent agents, Patrick Whitesell — for the past eight months.
According to the outlet, Jeff “has been whisking his mistress off to exotic destinations on his $65 million private jet” and having secret meetings with Sanchez, 49, at private estates. Through an extensive, four-month investigation, the Enquirer tracked the billionaire mogul and his lover “across five states and 40,000 miles” and spotted them on “intimate dinner dates” and having “quality time in hidden love nests.” Both Jeff and Sanchez’s respective spouses were recently told about the affair.
Jeff’s secret affair with Sanchez preceded the announcement of his divorce from wife MacKenzie, 48, via Twitter on Jan. 9. “We want to make people aware of a development in our lives. As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends,” a tweet posted to the Amazon founder’s Twitter account explained.
“We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other. If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again,” the statement continued. “We’ve had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures. Though the labels might be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends.”
Jeff and MacKenzie previously tied the knot back in 1993 and are parents to four children together. Whitesell and Sanchez have two children together and the former Extra host additionally has a teenage son with ex Tony Gonzalez.
