Eva Mendes Jokes the ‘Hardest Part’ of Parenting Is Carrying Around ‘Fresh’ Snacks for Your Kids
Actress Eva Mendes loves being a mom to her two kids — Esmeralda, 5, and Amada, 3 — but there are a few things that she finds tough about motherhood. During a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, she revealed the hardest parts about parenting her kids with partner Ryan Gosling.
“The hardest part [of parenting] hands-down is the amount of snacks I have to carry with me all day long, and the variety,” Eva, 45, joked in front of the studio audience. “They like something different so you need to keep it fresh, especially on long car rides. Those are the worst. Even going to the market, I need to take food in the car to go [there].”
Before Eva welcomed her kids with Ryan, 38, she thought she knew everything that there was to know about parenting — but after her little girls arrived, they quickly proved her wrong.
“Nobody told me it was really going to be a job, and a job I would need an incredible amount of skill for,” she admitted to Kelly Clarkson, who’s also a mom of two. “[I’m] a chauffeur, a cook, a personal assistant to an abusive boss. They’re not grateful. Any other profession you would need to pass a test, but the only test I had to pass was a pregnancy test. That doesn’t seem fair.”
Surely enough, Eva and Ryan found their perfect groove of parenting and learned exactly how they want to raise their kids. “We’re very controlling,” the actress explained, and added that they’re “bulldozing parents.”
However, they do plan on letting Amada and Esmeralda have a little bit of fun on Halloween. “Our kids are obsessed with The Wizard of Oz and Dorothy, so they’ve been Dorothy every year,” Eva laughed. “It’s financially great, [but] I’m like, ‘Maybe we can do a bloody Dorothy. I can put some blood on you because really? Dorothy again?’”
Eva’s kids love to play dress up and the Ghost Rider star has gotten so used to it that she doesn’t it mind anymore. “It’s like Halloween every day” for them, Eva joked. But even if they go trick-or-treating as characters from the Wizard of Oz this year, we’re sure Amada and Esmeralda will still have the hottest costumes on the block!
