With teachers like mom Eva Mendes and dad Ryan Gosling, their daughters — Esmeralda, 4, and Amada, 3 — will be pros at speaking Spanish! Eventually, at least.

“I’m Cuban and we’re trying to teach the kids Spanish,” Eva, 45, explained during a recent appearance on The Talk, admitting that “it’s harder than I thought.” Since Eva normally speaks a mix of Spanish and English (known as “Spanglish”) at home, her kids have been learning how to talk in a language that doesn’t actually exist.

“I speak Spanglish and that’s what they’re picking up. So it’s adorable but it’s technically not a language. It’s Spanglish,” Eva continued. “So our little girl will be like, ‘Mommy, my boca (mouth) hurts because I think something got stuck in my diente (tooth).’ It’s so cute, but that is not really gonna go great out there.”

Even though Esmeralda and Amada aren’t technically saying full sentences in Spanish, it’s still great that they’re picking up some words from their parents. In fact, being a mother to two beautiful kids has changed Eva’s perspective on life.

“I was never one of those women who really wanted children, and then I fell in love with Ryan,” she recently explained. “I was like, ‘Oh, I get it. I don’t want children, I want your children. I want your babies.”

In a previous interview with Women’s Health, Eva also opened up about the joys of having children. “They challenge you in so many ways. Like, I’m their mom. I have to rise up, and hopefully, most of the time I do, but sometimes it’s definitely maddening,” she joked. “I don’t let them see me put attention to how I dress. They’ve never seen me get ready for something; they’ve never seen me at work. … I’m just Mom. And I’m more than happy to just be Mom.”

Eva and Ryan’s kids are going to grow up and become amazing people — just like their parents!
