How cute! While social media is now a thing, we’re sure famous people enjoy a good old classic fan letter, and that’s exactly what Emma Thompson wrote to Prince William after receiving damehood.

In 2018, the actress, 60, was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by the Duke of Cambridge, 36 — and she recalled just how much she enjoyed being in that moment with him. “Prince William was giving the awards and he was just so — I wrote him a fan letter afterwards because he was just so kind and good to everyone,” she shared recently on Today.

“And they have to do these a lot and he engaged so sweetly and generously with every single person. I was incredibly impressed,” the Oscar-winner continued.

The Nanny McPhee star also revealed that she received the note of her honor while filming her latest movie. “Well I was shooting Late Night when I got the letter — it’s very ancient, these are very, very old honors. Damehoods go back hundreds and hundreds of years to the 12th century or something,” she explained.

“You think of it as a modern thing, but in fact its not and you have to decide whether or not you want to take it or not,” Emma said, adding that it took her two seconds to accept the honor.

This isn’t the first time that Emma has mentioned Kate Middleton‘s husband — she once revealed that William accidentally pinched her attempting to put a pin on her blazer.

“Then he pins it right there,” Emma said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, pointing to the host’s chest. “And it’s a little bit of a nipple moment, and you go, ‘Gosh, I wasn’t expecting that.'” She continued, “And then he pins another one underneath … I’m pretty low slung these days. So, both times it hurt.”

“I made a very loud and inappropriate noise in Buckingham Palace. It’s not a surprise, isn’t it,” Emma added. Whoops!
