Talk about a memorable encounter! Emma Thompson had the honor of meeting Prince William last year at London’s Buckingham Palace, but she recently revealed that the Duke of Cambridge actually pinched her by accident … twice!
The 59-year-old sat-down on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday, April 12, and recalled being appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by William, 36, himself. And what did that honor come with? Two badges that had to be pinned to her blazer, but things didn’t exactly go well.
“Then he pins it right there,” the actress said, pointing to the comedian’s chest. “And it’s a little bit of a nipple moment, and you go, ‘Gosh, I wasn’t expecting that.'” She continued, “And then he pins another one underneath … I’m pretty low slung these days. So, both times it hurt.”
The Oscar-winner made it very clear the duke had hurt her a tad. “I made a very loud and inappropriate noise in Buckingham Palace. It’s not a surprise, isn’t it,” she said.
Following the very special event, the Nanny McPhee star even tried to get a kiss from William. “I love Prince William. I’ve known him since he was little, and we just sniggered at each other,” she told reporters there at the time. “I said, ‘I can’t kiss you, can I?’ And he said, ‘No, don’t!’” Emma, according to People, also said, “He’s looking wonderful and doing so well. He said, ‘This day isn’t about me, it’s about you.'”
She added, “It’s really lovely because I’ve always loved the boys, [William and Prince Harry], and I’ve always been a long-term correspondent with their dad, [Prince Charles]. It’s a very lovely feeling.” And speaking of Queen Elizabeth‘s son, 70, the Love Actually costar once said in Time magazine that she not only danced with him, but she attempted to do a lot more with the heir to the throne.
“There’s a long history of relationships between Princes of Wales and actors — not just actresses, not just the rude relationships as [Charles] would say, though God knows I’ve tried,” she joked. “He wasn’t having any of it.”
