She is seriously the best! British actress Emma Thompson was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire at London’s Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, Nov. 7 and during the ceremony casually (and hilariously!) tried to kiss Prince William. Yes, seriously!

Following the special event, she told reporters waiting outside the palace, “I love Prince William. I’ve known him since he was little, and we just sniggered at each other. I said, ‘I can’t kiss you, can I?’ And he said, ‘No, don’t!’”

“He’s looking wonderful and doing so well. He said, ‘This day isn’t about me, it’s about you,'” Emma continued, according to People. “It’s really lovely because I’ve always loved the boys, [William and Prince Harry], and I’ve always been a long-term correspondent with their dad, [Prince Charles]. It’s a very lovely feeling.”

Later on Wednesday, the official Kensington Palace Instagram account even shared a few photos of Emma with William during the ceremony and gave the 59-year-old actress a sweet shout-out. “Congratulations to Dame Emma Thompson and all of the recipients who received honours at today’s investiture ceremony,” the caption read. How nice!

Emma is far from the first star to receive the coveted Dame title from a member of the British monarchy. In the past, Judi Dench, Julie Andrews, Maggie Smith, Helen Mirren, and Elizabeth Taylor (just to name a few!) were bestowed the honor and Hollywood icons including Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Patrick Stewart, Daniel Day-Lewis, Elton John, and Mick Jagger have all been given the Sir title during knighthood ceremonies at Buckingham Palace. So cool, right?!
