Breakups are never fun. In the new documentary, Coldplay: A Head Full of DreamsChris Martin said he felt “completely worthless” after splitting up with Gwyneth Paltrow, and we feel for the 41-year-old singer.

Entertainment Tonight reported that Chris spoke about the couple ending their marriage, and about how bad 2014 was for the Coldplay singer in general. Chris reportedly said he felt he was “nothing to anybody” after the split, and that he was dealing with depression at the same time. He explained, “I was just like, ‘I’m a mess,’ really, because I can’t enjoy the great things around me. Then, of course, I went through a breakup with Gwyneth. Listen, I’m never going to moan, I’m grateful for everything, but it was pretty touch and go.”

Gwyneth and Chris decided to “consciously uncouple” after more than 10 years of marriage and the birth of two kids: Apple, 14, and Moses, who is now 12.

Chris’ former manager, Phil Harvey, also spoke about how concerned he was for the singer during that difficult time in his life, according to the entertainment outlet. “I was worried about him to the extent that I was just really glad to get a text in the morning just to know he was OK,” Phil said.

These days, Chris is dating Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson, and Gwyneth married producer Brad Falchuk in September. And they seem to happily co-parent Apple and Moses. Gwyneth often posts photos of the family together to her Instagram account, and they’re not one of those famous couples we constantly hear about fighting over custody battles and other disagreements post-divorce.

But that doesn’t mean Chris isn’t allowed to have some lingering hurt over the breakup. At least he seems to be doing a lot better these days!
