It looks like Jennifer Garner’s hot new romance is a wake-up call for her ex-husband, Ben Affleck. According to a new Heat Magazine report, the Gone Girl actor was surprised by his ex-wife’s relationship with CEO John Miller because he “somehow thought Jen might remain single forever.”

Well, Ben, she isn’t. The Peppermint actress recently went public with her new beau, who she’s reportedly been seeing for around six months. Considering that Ben allegedly never imagined Jen would move on with another guy, he was reportedly torn apart when he learned that John has met his three kids — Violet, 13, Seraphina, 9, and Samuel, 6 — that he shares with Jen.

“When Ben and Jen met up with the kids, they kept talking about mommy’s new friend and how much fun he was,” the source dished. “They were saying how [John] knows how to cook and doesn’t like alcohol, which really got to Ben.” Yikes!

While we can empathize with Ben’s feelings, we’re not totally sure why the actor is seemingly so torn apart considering he wasted no time dating himself after he and Jen split in 2015. Since then, the actor has been linked to 38-year-old TV producer Lindsay Shookus and 22-year-old Playboy model Shauna Sexton. “Although he hasn’t been short of women since splitting with Jen, she avoided dating until she met John,” the source revealed. “She made a point of never introducing him to her children until her divorce was official. When Ben saw the pics of Jen and John [together] online, he was devastated.”

Either Ben just screwed up with Jen or he might be scared that his kids are going to find John cooler than him. We’re going to go with the latter, but still, it’s definitely not fun to see your ex-wife frolicking out and about like this is the first time they’ve ever been in love.

“Ben realized that there might be a stepfather in the children’s future and he felt like a total failure,” the insider said, adding that he never imagined Jen would bring another man into their kids’ lives. “But he knows he needs help and wants to be the best dad possible.” We’re rooting for you, Ben!
