Madonna has tons of No. 1 hits under her belt, but nothing is quite as important than her six kids. Over the years, fans have watched the “Material Girl” songstress go from one of Hollywood’s most iconic pop stars to the doting mom of her children, Lourdes, Rocco, David, Mercy, Estere and Stella.
Madonna became a mother for the first time when she welcomed her eldest daughter, Lourdes, with ex-boyfriend Carlos Leon in 1996. The former couple went their separate ways following the little one’s birth and Madonna ultimately moved on with her second husband, Guy Ritchie.
The “La Isla Bonita” singer tied the knot with the English film director in 2000 and expanded her family when son Rocco was born that same year. Guy and Madonna, who was previously married to her first husband, Sean Penn, from 1985 to 1989, also adopted their son, David, from Malawi in East Africa in 2008.
Sadly, the ex-pair called it quits after nearly eight years of marriage in 2008. Following Madonna and Guy’s divorce, the A League of Their Own actress added to her brood when she brought home her adopted daughter Mercy in 2009. She completed her family with the adoption of her twin daughters, Estere and Stella, years later in 2017.
Although Madonna is one of Hollywood’s busiest stars, she always makes sure to set aside time with her family. While celebrating her 62nd birthday in mid-August, the proud mama revealed she traveled with her kiddos to Jamaica for an over-the-top vacation.
“Birthday fun in Jamaica,” the Grammy Award winner captioned a video of her friends and family dancing to music in honor of her special day. Although Lourdes and Rocco were noticeably absent, Madonna’s younger kids, David, Mercy, Estere and Stella, looked happier than ever spending time with her mom.
The Evita star relishes in her role as a loving parent, but motherhood hasn’t been the easiest road. While chatting with People in 2017, Madonna got candid about the “complicated” adoption process.
“I’ve had some pretty dark moments, but I’m a survivor,” she revealed at the time. “Because I’m a public figure, people don’t want to be perceived as giving me any kind of special treatment, so I get the hard road.”
Fortunately, Madonna gushed expanding her brood and bringing her kids home was “so worth it.”
