Steve Martin and Martin Short had the crowd roaring with laughter as they traded jabs at the WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla., on July 11.
“Steve looks great,” acknowledged Martin of his ¡Three Amigos! co-star. “I guess that’s the advantage of looking like you’re 70 since the age of 30.”

Martin may have been cracking wise about his old pal’s prematurely gray hair, but it’s actually a rich and fulfilling home life that has rejuvenated the comedy icon, who turns 70 on Aug. 14. Though receiving the prestigious American Film Institute Life Achievement Award in June left him “humbled, honored and thrilled,” said Steve, home is where his heart is.

The road to marital bliss had its bumps. Steve’s four-year romance with The Jerk and Pennies From Heaven co-star Bernadette Peters ended in 1981, and he and actress Victoria Tennant, with whom he starred in All of Me and LA Story, divorced in 1994 after eight years of marriage. Steve then chose to focus on other passions, like writing, music and his impressive art collection. “Steve’s a real Renaissance man,” says the insider. “He is one of the few actors out there where making a film isn’t the be-all and end-all.”
