Whatever you do, don’t call Patti LaBelle a diva!
The 69-year-old legend says she is sick of how often the word is thrown around these days and would prefer not to be associated with some of the artists labeled “divas” today.
“That word is used so loosely that I don't even consider myself a diva,” LaBelle explains. “I always considered myself a woman who sings her heart out and who gives 120 percent.”
“It’s not cute anymore,” she adds, “because all these little heifers who can't sing are called divas!”
The star went on to say that she’s sure many of her singing peers would agree with her statements.
“It doesn't mean anything to me and probably to some of the other ladies who have been doing it for as long as I have: Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick.”
“I know I wouldn't call them divas,” the “On My Own” signer adds, “because it's not in good company.”

But the Grammy-winner didn’t stop her harsh comments there. When referring to today’s artists, LaBelle tells PrideSource, “Now you can look up to them, but you might not see what you wanna see. A hot mess!"
Currently, LaBelle is touring through February and working on three different albums, one of which will be a collection of ballads.
