Actress Selma Blair and her young son, Arthur, are sadly mourning the loss of their beloved dog Ducky after the pup suffered dire injuries in a "terrible accident" earlier this week and later died. The 45-year-old star first took to Instagram on Thursday, Aug. 17 to ask her loyal fans to pray for Ducky after she had been badly hurt.
"Please say prayers for Ducky. She had a terrible accident this evening. The vet recommended ending her suffering. But when her tail wagged, I couldn't do it. We are going ahead to try to put her body and organs back together. She is our home. We ask for this miracle. Please say a word. Arthur's heart is broken.🐾💔," Selma captioned a snapshot of her son, 6, sleeping beside the 13-year-old Chihuahua-pug.
A few hours later, the Cruel Intentions star returned to the photo-sharing site to reveal Ducky had tragically passed away. "Run with the angels. We miss you so much. So much, sweet girl. Please send us our next dog. With the spirit of you and [our other dog] Wink. Our hearts are broken," she wrote alongside a throwback photo of Arthur giving Ducky a kiss.
The actress' 457,000 followers were quick to send their condolences to Selma and Arthur following the sad news. "Sending you strength and love. I'm sorry," one person sweetly wrote with another adding, "So very sorry. We love our animals fiercely. Sending you healing thoughts."
Earlier this year, Selma — who welcomed son Arthur, her only child, with ex-boyfriend Jason Bleick in July 2011 — opened up about her little boy's adorable bond with their pup Ducky. "They love each other very much, but it’s very much brother and sister. My boy just wants to squeeze her as tight as he can and play games and have pillow fights... She cuddles with Arthur. She loves Arthur the most when he’s asleep, but she gladly goes to him and sits on his lap any chance she gets! They both have a deep love for each other," she told People in March. We're thinking of you during this difficult time, Selma and Arthur!
