It’s been eight years since Sean Penn and Robin Wright divorced, and now, the actor has revealed the exes “don’t have a lot of conversation” today. And to make matters worse, their parenting styles differ immensely when it comes to raising their two adult children together, Dylan, 26, and Hopper, 24.

“We don’t not get along,” Sean told host Marc Maron on his WTF Podcast about his relationship with Robin, whom he was hitched to from 1996 until 2010. “We have very separate relationships with our kids at this point and it seems to work better that way because they are making their own decisions. As it turned out she and I did not share the same ethical views on parenting, including the continuing parenting of adult children.”

Sean didn’t specify the differences in how they parent their son and daughter, however, whatever he’s doing with the two must be working well since his relationship with his kids is “going great,” he said. The I Am Sam actor shared, “They’re amazing people. They’re both acting and modeling, an industry that I’m not very interested in but they seem to have fun with it.”

Earlier this month, the A-lister basically revealed that he’s retiring from acting. “It can be great when you’re working with good actors or good directors or good writing as an exercise, but do I have a belief that it has a lasting value? Maybe, I could make the argument intellectually. But I don’t have a visceral — I’m not in love with that anymore,” he said at the time.

But that doesn’t mean he won’t be supportive if Dylan and Hopper choose a life in showbiz. Sean confessed, “I’m supportive of whatever my kids do that keeps them happy and healthy, period.”
