Sally Field Goes on Last-Minute Shopping Trip With Granddaughter Sophie in NYC — Take a Look!

When Sally did a Live Talks L.A. Q&A session for her memoir, In Pieces, she opened up about why she’s happy being single and has stopped looking for love.

“I don’t even try,” she explained in December 2018. “I’m really happy with how I am, and I really don’t want to pick up your underwear in the morning, you know?”

Being single also gives Sally the type of freedom that she never had with Alan or her first husband, Steven Craig. “I really like not worrying about someone else’s dinner,” she said. “I really don’t want to start [that] again.”

Now that she’s twice divorced, Sally has learned that there’s a difference between being lonely and being alone.

“Ultimately, what we have is just aloneness, and that sounds terrible, but it’s really glorious,” she admitted. “Because if you are all together inside yourself, owning yourself, and all the pieces are put together, you keep great company with yourself. You’re not alone in your aloneness — you’re together with yourself.”

However, Sally hasn’t taken herself off the market just yet. “It’s not that I don’t have any interest in dating,” she has said. “I have friends I go out with, men friends. I don’t know if some of the men I see would consider them dates, but I don’t think so.”

“When you get to a certain age, you’re not dating,” she continued. “I’m not taking myself off the market — not that I’m on the market. I’m just alive.”
