Meghan Markle and Prince Harry May Have Adorably Hinted at Baby Archie’s Name Months Ago

The world was eagerly waiting to learn what Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were going to name their new baby boy, and it ended up being Archie Harrison Montbatten-Windsor. However, that shouldn’t come as a major surprise, as the royal couple apparently hinted at the name way before their son was born.

While on their trip to New Zealand back in October, the Duke of Sussex, 34, met a young boy in Auckland named … Archie. “Archie, I like that name,” the royal told the boy at the time, before calling his wife, 37, over to also tell her the name.

The student, his full name Archie Somerville-Ryan, recalled the encounter to Channel 5 News. “He said, ‘I like that name’ or something like that [to Meghan].” He continued, “My mum said, ‘Imagine if they call it Archie.’ He said, ‘Come on Meghan, look at these guys.’ Because we had roses in the garden. And he introduced our names to Meghan, and kind of like nodded when they said our names.”

The boy was of course shocked to learn the royal baby’s name months later. “What? Really?” he said upon learning the news.

The couple have not confirmed where their first child’s name was inspired from, but it does have ties to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll, the chief of Clan Campbell, was a Scottish nobleman, politician, a peer and a notable ancestor of the Princess of Wales.

The name Harrison is also a tribute to the royal baby’s father, as it means “son of harry.” According to nameberry.com: “Archie is a boy’s name of German origin meaning ‘truly brave’.”

Prince William‘s brother and the former actress may want to start thinking of other names in the future, as they are already considering having another kid. “Harry and Meghan are telling friends that the baby is the best thing that’s ever happened to them. It’s a fairytale come true and they can’t take their eyes off Archie,” a royal source exclusively told Closer Weekly. “After nine months of waiting, they burst into tears of joy when the baby was born. They’re overwhelmed with happiness and are already talking about having a second child!”

The insider added, “Meghan and Harry would love to have at least one more. Ideally a little girl and a sister for Archie to play with.”
