Queen Elizabeth Wears Royal Blue As She Opens Housing Project for Veterans
It was quite the memorable moment for Queen Elizabeth, as she not only returned from her vacation in Balmoral, but more importantly, she visited London to open one of the biggest new housing projects for veterans.
On Friday, October 11, the official royal family Instagram revealed the exciting news of the opening of the “new development of 70 homes. “Haig Housing is the country’s largest military housing charity, with over 1,500 properties across the UK, providing affordable and accessible accommodation to armed forces veterans — some who have been severely wounded — and their families,” the caption read alongside numerous photos of the exciting day, including a clip of the head monarch meeting some lucky fans. “The Bowman family welcomed The Queen into their new home. Michael served in the Grenadier Guards for 14 years, and is one of the newest residents in the development.”
It is no surprise to see the Queen focused on making life easier on all those who fought for their country, especially since she has been the Patron of Haig Housing since 1952 — according to the message, in 1948, Prince Philip‘s wife also “opened a Haig Housing estate in Jersey.” Incredible!
The Bowman family weren’t the only folks that the Queen had the honor of meeting — she also visited World War 2 flyer Ken Souter. “Her Majesty recently sent Ken a birthday card to celebrate his 100th birthday,” the post on Instagram read. Her day wasn’t done there, as the Queen also met students from the London Borough of Merton, and received quite the honor.
“Along the Queen Elizabeth Terrace — a block named in her honor, The Queen unveiled a plaque to declare the development officially open,” the post concluded. Fans were loving this special day, as they took to the comments section to respond.
“Look at her smile! Bless her heart I hope she feels as good as she looks,” one person said. “Awww. Love the children cheering ‘The best queen in the world!’ After she unveiled the plaque!” another added. While one commenter chimed in with, “She looks very lovely today!”
