Queen Elizabeth is known to walk around outside Buckingham Palace late at night or early in the morning when she has trouble sleeping, an ex-guard revealed. One night, a patrolman saw a “figure in the darkness” and thought it was an intruder.

Thankfully, the guard called out to see who the person was — and realized it was the queen!

“Bloody hell, Your Majesty, I nearly shot you,” the guard reportedly told Queen Elizabeth. “That’s quite all right,” she allegedly responded. “Next time I’ll ring through beforehand so you don’t have to shoot me.”

“Thought Queen Elizabeth II had died. Told my mom. Instantly in tears… whoops,” one person wrote on Twitter following the hoax.
